Question:

What is the new Aeroplan membership card?

Answer:

It’s an activated, non-personalized (the member’s name doesn’t appear on the card), Tangerine Aeroplan membership card. The card has the identical functionality as the current Aeroplan membership card - with the exception that there is no personalization.


Who is the target audience for the new Aeroplan membership cards?

Any customer of existing or new Aeroplan partners who is interested in becoming an Aeroplan member is part of our target audience for this card.


Where will consumers find the new Aeroplan membership cards?

These membership cards will be available at participating partner locations and we anticipate that they will be an integral part of new partner launches.


What’s the difference between a new Aeroplan membership card and the current Aeroplan membership card?

The cards’ functionality is identical - with the exception that the new Aeroplan membership card will never bear the member’s name.


Can two or more people accumulate miles using the same new Aeroplan membership card number?


Aeroplan membership is on an individual basis.

Will Aeroplan’s current terms and conditions apply to this form of enrolment?

Yes, and as is currently the case, we will continue to remind our members to stay active by having at least one transaction with Aeroplan within a 12-month period.


How will new members provide their pertinent information?

Clear and concise instructions are included in the new Aeroplan membership card kit. Also, these same instructions are included on a decal, affixed to the card. Efforts will be made instruct members to register their cards by providing their personal information via the Web.


What type of information will new members be asked to provide?

Members will be asked to provide personal information that’s currently required for their profile, including name, address and telephone number, with particular focus on providing an e-mail address.


What happens to the accumulated miles if a member loses his new Aeroplan membership card before providing his personal information?

Because the account can’t be associated to a member, the miles will be considered lost, and the account expired if it’s deemed inactive during the following 12-month period, per current terms and conditions.


Once registered (by providing personal information), can the new Aeroplan membership card be used like a personalized card?

The new Aeroplan membership card is a permanent Aeroplan card that can be used in the same manner as the current card to accumulate Aeroplan Miles, including Status Miles, and used to check-in at the airport using self-service kiosks. Once registered, the member’s personal information, such as his/her name is embedded in the card and permanently attached to the member’s Aeroplan profile.


What is included in the new Aeroplan membership card kit?

The kit includes the following components:

  • A Welcome letter and instructions to register the account (by providing personal information via the Web
  • One Aeroplan membership card with decal/instructions to register the card
  • Aeroplan’s Privacy Policy o Application forms for a co-branded American Express AeroplanPlus and CIBC Aerogold VISA card and/or partner offers (subject to availability)

Are new Aeroplan membership cards a permanent initiative?

Absolutely. Facilitating the process by which Aeroplan members can earn miles is critical to our success - and making membership cards available at partner outlets is a means to that important end.


Are new Aeroplan membership cards considered permanent cards?

Yes, they are.


How do the new Aeroplan membership cards look?

These cards are slightly different, as they include a banner at the bottom. These cards follow our current branding template and are the same as the Aeroplan cards that will be sent out to members through the new member fulfillment kit or as replacement cards starting in the fall. With the exception of personalization, they’re identical in functionality and look (tangerine in colour with six-digit BIN number, unique nine-digit Aeroplan membership number and check digit) to the Aeroplan membership cards and can be used in the same fashion as existing cards.


Will members eventually receive a personalized card?

No.


Can’t active, unpersonalized cards be used fraudulently, if the member loses it or the card is stolen? How do we protect Aeroplan and the member should this circumstance arise?

We recommend that all cardholders register their new Aeroplan card by providing personal information as soon as possible.


Can members accumulate miles across the partner network with the new Aeroplan membership cards?

Absolutely. The new Aeroplan membership cards are exactly like the existing membership card and can be used as such. The only exception is accumulation with airline partners - in this case, accumulation is only possible once the personal profile is populated.


Can members who accumulate using a new Aeroplan membership card earn Status Miles?

Provided the personal profile has been populated - absolutely. The new Aeroplan membership card is a permanent Aeroplan membership card which allows members to accumulate and redeem Aeroplan Miles and accumulate toward top tier status, if applicable.
